Cybertruck Tent for Tesla
Heimplanet Product | 2024
In collaboration with Tesla we created an inflatable car tent tailored specifically for the Cybertruck.
This involved designing and developing the inflatable air beam frame and construction of the flysheet and inner tent, including doors, windows and pockets. Additionally, we conceptualized a foldable platform that was combined with the tent to streamline the setup process, making it as quick and effortless as possible.
My role: Project manager, product design & product development assistant, supply chain management assistant.
Concept
The concept is based on traditional pick-up tents, where the tent is typically placed inside the truck bed. In this instance, the sleeping surface is raised to create space beneath the tent for additional camping gear. The platform can be unfolded to access the tent and an air pump quickly inflates the air frame, allowing the tent to self-expand. A thin mattress is integrated into the bottom of the tent for added comfort.
The Cybertruck features l-track rails inside the trunk bed, which we utilized to attach the platform. One challenge we encountered was adapting to the shorter length of the trunk bed compared to standard sleeping spaces.
Process
The entire process was a very close collaboration with the Tesla design team where I managed the project from the Heimplanet side. This involved overseeing the process and planning the next steps, ensuring we met tight timelines, structuring our weekly video meetings with Tesla and coordinating communication between our development team, Tesla's development team and various suppliers.
As the assistant product designer, I collaborated with my design colleague and the Tesla team on researching, brainstorming and developing the tent's concept and design. I designed various details in the tent, such as the window construction, the updated storage case and I took a big part in creating the platform concept.
Additionally, I coordinated with both new and existing suppliers to organize the supply chain and source product parts from different vendors.
